Meet The Artist: Anna Wolff
Anna is from the West Coast. Her journey to Loose Screw is a winding road, but we’re so glad she made it here and loves her home in RVA.
“When I came to Richmond it was obvious this was fate,” she says.
Her seven-year tattoo career actually began when she was just two or three years old when she would decorate herself with a Sharpie. Today, she’s known for her light, airy, detailed tattoos. We got to know Anna a little better. Keep reading and get to know her, too!
What are your favorite kind of pieces to work on/what’s your tattoo style?
My favorite pieces are ones with a face or a flower. My tattoo style is light, airy, black and grey. But I use to primarily work in color, so I’m comfortable doing a wide variety of tattoo styles.
What drew you to the craft?
When I was 2 to 3 years old, I’d Sharpie my whole body. In grade school, I remember drawing on my friends with gel pens and proclaiming: “When I grow up, I’m going to be a tattoo artist!”
I also think when I saw George Clooney with a tribal neck tattoo in “From Dusk till Dawn,” it changed me because no one in my family even had tattoos…. Using my art to help people is my purpose. Tattoos are one of the best ways to help people with body issues, heart ache, life, death, and rebirth.
How do you like to practice your craft?
I like to practice by creating as much as possible and continuing to grow my own collection of tattoos by artists I think I can learn from. I tattoo day in and day out–eight to nine hours a day, five days a week is always my goal. I’m always learning new lessons and pushing to do better.
Where are your favorite Richmond restaurants?
I love to go to Can Can Brasserie as a treat in the morning once a week for a latte and a breakfast plate.
What has been your favorite moment in your tattoo career?
The best moment in my career was tattooing a half sleeve on a combat veteran. This client had a hard time coping with the site of the flesh where his right hand was amputated. When I finished the half sleeve, he came back and told me now he not only can look at his right arm but he loves looking at it! Never have I felt so fulfilled.
What are you looking forward to as the shop reopens and practices new social distancing norms?
I look forward to feeling that fulfillment again. And seeing my art making others happy.
